Black Sheep Brewery was founded in 1992 by Paul Theakston in of the famous Theakston Brewery who brewed Old Peculier. After the Theakston family sold their brewery Paul decided to open his own brewery in the same town of Masham. Because of the falling out with his family he named the brewery Black Sheep. His brewery has prospered. He employees the use of Yorkshire Slate Squares which is one of the reasons for the incredible malt profile of Black Sheep Special Ale. The off-white, thick, creamy head sits on a dark amber beer. The full malty entrance with an English hop background sends the nose reeling, then it s back to the pint where the promise of the nose is fulfilled with an incredible rich, enveloping body full of dry malt and hops. Black Sheep ends smooth with rich malt and slightly bitter hops. With a brew like this a black sheep should be welcomed back into the family!
